Our History
In
2003 the Harlan Campus partnered with the local Rotary
Club to start and bring successful arts programming to
the campus. The
decision was made to work on local indigenous music of
the area, specifically bluegrass music.
There was considerable interest within the
community and the project has shown marked promise.
In 2003-2004 the college and the Rotary Club
put on 4 performances, featuring both professional and
local musicians, These performances completely sold
out our 200 seat auditorium.
We have completed our second year of the
series with similar success.
There were 6 shows planed for 2004-2005, 1 per
month during the winter months, which have already
taken place and each has seen a full house averaging 200
plus. The
response within the community has been very positive.
In
2005 We decided it was time to celebrate our success
and started the Festival as an outdoor
celebration festival. The 2005-2006 series is
set as well as the date for our first annual bluegrass
festival. You can check out this winters series by

Rotary Club
The
Harlan Rotary Club decided in 2010 that it could no
longer put on the festival. A grass roots effort was
launched and the festival will be continued.
